***Last Epoch*** is a time-travel themed, loot-based [hack and slash](/source/Hack_and_slash) [action role-playing game](/source/Action_role-playing_game) developed and published by Eleventh Hour Games.

## Plot

The game is set in the world of Eterra across several [timelines](/source/Time_travel).[2]

## Development and release

In April 2018, a free playable [demo](/source/Game_demo) was released as part of *Last Epoch**s [Kickstarter](/source/Kickstarter) drive.[3] In April 2019, the game's [beta](/source/Software_testing#Beta_testing) was made available via [Steam Early Access](/source/Steam_Early_Access).[4] In December 2019, the title's full release, originally planned for April 2020, was rescheduled to the fourth [quarter](/source/Calendar_year#Quarters) of 2020.[5] In October 2020, the developers announced the cancellation of the [Mac](/source/MacOS) client for the game. In their announcement, they cited anticipated difficulties arising from Apple's [transition](/source/Mac_(computer)#Apple_silicon_transition) to computers powered by [ARM](/source/ARM_architecture_family)-based processors.[6] In December 2020, Eleventh Hour Games announced that*****Last Epoch**s release was delayed until 2021.[7]

In September 2024, the studio announced they would no longer be updating the [Linux](/source/Linux) client.[8] There was controversy surrounding this decision as, initially, the post had failed to mention the Linux client at all.[9]

In March 2023, a multiplayer beta was launched.[10] On February 21, 2024, the game was released to the public in three editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate.[11] The launch had more than 250,000 concurrent online players.[12]

## Reception

*Last Epoch'*s 2018 Kickstarter campaign managed to successfully reach its goal, ultimately raising over $250,000.[13]

As of March 22, 2024, it had sold 2,135,257 copies and reached 264,708 peak concurrent users on Steam.[14]
