He has also written a series of [Sherlock Holmes](/source/Sherlock_Holmes) mysteries set in the United States and Minnesota in the 1890s. The books feature the character Shadwell Rafferty who assists Holmes in his American investigations. ==Education== Millett graduated from [St. John's University](/source/College_of_Saint_Benedict%2FSaint_John's_University) in [Collegeville, Minnesota](/source/Collegeville%2C_Minnesota) with a [Bachelor of Arts](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) degree in [English](/source/English_studies) in 1969. He received a [master's](/source/Master_of_Arts) degree in English in 1970 from the [University of Chicago](/source/University_of_Chicago). ==Career== Millett worked at the ''Pioneer Press'' from 1972 until 1984 when he had an opportunity to study architecture at the [University of Michigan](/source/University_of_Michigan) in [Ann Arbor](/source/Ann_Arbor%2C_Michigan). When he returned to St. Paul in 1985, he became the newspaper's first architecture critic. He has written articles for several historical and architectural magazines in the [Midwest](/source/Midwest), mostly focusing on works by [Prairie School](/source/Prairie_School) architects including [Louis Sullivan](/source/Louis_Sullivan) and [Frank Lloyd Wright](/source/Frank_Lloyd_Wright). Millett's ''Lost Twin Cities'' is probably the best known of his works in the [Minneapolis-St. Paul](/source/Minneapolis-St._Paul) region largely because [KTCA](/source/KTCA), a local [public television](/source/public_television) station, created a video documentary by the same name which covered a few of the buildings in the book. The video was narrated by [Dave Moore](/source/Dave_Moore_(newscaster)), a noted area TV journalist, and is often replayed when the station is running a [pledge drive](/source/pledge_drive).
