McCall was signed by the [Baltimore Orioles](/source/Baltimore_Orioles) on February 27, 1971, as an amateur [free agent](/source/free_agent). McCall served as the pitching coach with the [Bluefield Orioles](/source/Bluefield_Orioles) in 1990. He later coached the Class-A [Kane County Cougars](/source/Kane_County_Cougars) for two seasons. He was with the [Frederick Keys](/source/Frederick_Keys) for the 1993 season and spent three seasons there before going to the [High Desert Mavericks](/source/High_Desert_Mavericks) in 1996. McCall was the pitching coach for the Double-A [Bowie Baysox](/source/Bowie_Baysox) in 1997, and that off-season he went to Australia to serve as the pitching coach for the [Perth Heat](/source/Perth_Heat). After spending the four years with the [Rochester Red Wings](/source/Rochester_Red_Wings), he served as the pitching coach for the [Gulf Coast League Orioles](/source/Gulf_Coast_League_Orioles) in 2002, and for the [Delmarva Shorebirds](/source/Delmarva_Shorebirds) in 2003.

In 2005, McCall was named the winner of the Cal Ripken Sr. Player Development Award.
