'''Larry Dean Martin''' (December 8, 1943 – March 9, 2013) was an American vertebrate [paleontologist](/source/paleontologist) and [curator](/source/curator) of the Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Research Center at the [University of Kansas](/source/University_of_Kansas).<ref>{{cite web|url=http://news.ku.edu/2013/03/11/university-mourns-death-professor-larry-martin |title=University mourns death of Professor Larry Martin &#124; The University of Kansas &#124; The University of Kansas |publisher=News.ku.edu |date= 11 March 2013|access-date=2013-03-15}}</ref> Among Martin's work is research on the [Triassic](/source/Triassic) reptile ''[Longisquama](/source/Longisquama)'' and [theropod](/source/theropod) [dinosaur](/source/dinosaur) (or fossil bird) ''[Caudipteryx](/source/Caudipteryx)'' and ''[Dakotaraptor](/source/Dakotaraptor)''.   According to the University of Kansas, he "has been a leading opponent of the theory that birds are 'living dinosaurs.'"{{citation needed|date=July 2021}} Later he acknowledged a correlation and further contributed. {{citation needed|date=July 2021}}
He has also appeared in a few television documentaries about dinosaurs, including ''[Jurassic Fight Club](/source/Jurassic_Fight_Club)''.

He died of cancer at the age of 69 on March 9, 2013, after a long battle with the disease.
