# Laredo Sound

**Laredo Sound** is a [sound](/source/Sound_(geography)) on the [Central Coast of British Columbia](/source/British_Columbia_Coast), [Canada](/source/Canada), located on the north side of [Price Island](/source/Price_Island_(British_Columbia)). It is connected to [Caamaño Sound](/source/Caama%C3%B1o_Sound) via [Laredo Channel](/source/Laredo_Channel), which runs between [Princess Royal Island](/source/Princess_Royal_Island) and [Aristazabal Island](/source/Aristazabal_Island).[1][2][3]

Laredo Sound was named in 1792 by the Spanish naval officer [Jacinto Caamaño](/source/Jacinto_Caama%C3%B1o), commanding the frigate *Aranzazu*, probably after the port city of [Laredo, Spain](/source/Laredo,_Spain).[4][5][6]

It is the namesake of *CCGS Laredo Sound*, a [SAR](/source/Search_and_Rescue) vessel operated by the [Canadian Coast Guard](/source/Canadian_Coast_Guard).
