The **Lancia D24** was a [sports racing car](/source/Sports_car_racing) introduced by [Lancia](/source/Lancia) in 1953, and raced in the 1953 and 1954 seasons. It kept the overall layout of its predecessor the [D23](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lancia_D23&action=edit&redlink=1)—that is a multi-tubular frame chassis, [double wishbones](/source/Double_wishbone_suspension)/[De Dion](/source/De_Dion_tube) suspension, [transaxle](/source/Transaxle) transmission and a [barchetta](/source/Barchetta) body—but had a large 3,284 cc [V6 engine](/source/V6_engine). The V6 produced 265 hp (198 kW), giving the car a top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph).

Some of the D24's most significant overall victories are those by [Juan Manuel Fangio](/source/Juan_Manuel_Fangio) in the [1953 Carrera Panamericana](/source/1953_Carrera_Panamericana), by [Alberto Ascari](/source/Alberto_Ascari) in the [1954 Mille Miglia](/source/1954_Mille_Miglia), and by [Piero Taruffi](/source/Piero_Taruffi) in the 1954 [Targa Florio](/source/Targa_Florio) and Giro di Sicilia.

In 1955, the President of [Lancia](/source/Lancia) presented a D24 to President [Juan Perón](/source/Juan_Per%C3%B3n) of [Argentina](/source/Argentina) who raced it nationally in the blue and yellow national livery. It was returned to [Italy](/source/Italy) in the 1980s and restored by the Count Vittorio Zanon. This is one of just two D24s in existence; the other is in the [Lancia Museum](/source/Lancia_Museum).[2]

Lancia D24 Spider won [1954 Mille Miglia](/source/1954_Mille_Miglia) driven by [Alberto Ascari](/source/Alberto_Ascari). The previous year it had already taken [Juan Manuel Fangio](/source/Juan_Manuel_Fangio) and [Gino Bronzoni](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gino_Bronzoni&action=edit&redlink=1) to victory at the [Carrera Panamericana](/source/1953_Carrera_Panamericana).
