# Lance Kinsey

**Lance Kinsey** (born June 13, 1954) is a [Canadian](/source/Canadians) actor and screenwriter, best known for his role as [Lt. Proctor](/source/List_of_Police_Academy_characters#Sgt..2FLt..2FCapt..2FActing_Capt._Carl_Proctor) in the *[Police Academy](/source/Police_Academy_(film_series))* film series. He also played the male lead in *[Club Fed](/source/Club_Fed_(film))* and wrote for the [Disney](/source/Disney) animated series, *[The Weekenders](/source/The_Weekenders)*.

## Life and career

Kinsey was born in [Calgary](/source/Calgary), [Alberta](/source/Alberta), Canada, and grew up in [Chagrin Falls, Ohio](/source/Chagrin_Falls,_Ohio). He attended Hawken School in [Gates Mills, Ohio](/source/Gates_Mills,_Ohio) and graduated from [Vanderbilt University](/source/Vanderbilt_University) in [Nashville, Tennessee](/source/Nashville,_Tennessee). He majored in drama and after college apprenticed at [Actors Theatre of Louisville](/source/Actors_Theatre_of_Louisville). Then he performed with other regional theatres, dinner theatres and national touring companies.

Kinsey moved to [Chicago](/source/Chicago) and joined the [Second City comedy troupe](/source/Second_City_Chicago) where he wrote and starred in several consecutive revues. He taught improv at high schools and colleges including [Columbia College](/source/Columbia_College_Chicago) in Illinois as well as the [Goodman Theatre](/source/Goodman_Theatre). He was nominated for two [Joseph Jefferson Awards](/source/Joseph_Jefferson_Awards).

Kinsey has appeared in television, film, and theatre productions, but is probably best known to audiences as Proctor, the brown-nosing, yes-man sidekick of Commandant Mauser and Captain Harris in the *[Police Academy](/source/Police_Academy_(franchise))* film series. Kinsey also writes and produces for television and film.[1] He appeared in one episode of *[The Amanda Show](/source/The_Amanda_Show)* in 1999.

## Personal life

Kinsey is married, his wife is Nancy, they met in Chicago at Second City. They have a son, Matt, and daughter, Logan. They live in [Los Angeles, California](/source/Los_Angeles,_California).[1]
