According to the [taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi (2005)](/source/Taxonomy_of_the_Gastropoda_(Bouchet_%26_Rocroi%2C_2005)) the family Lanascalidae used to be in superfamily [Cerithioidea](/source/Cerithioidea) of the [clade](/source/clade) [Sorbeoconcha](/source/Sorbeoconcha),{{r|Bouchet 2005|WoRMS_833882_old}} and has no subfamilies.{{r|Bouchet 2005}} It has only one genus.

Since 2018, the family is moved to [Seguenzioidea](/source/Seguenzioidea).{{r|Bouchet 2017|WoRMS_833882}}
