# Lamine Sy

**Lamine Sy** (born 10 August 2002) is a French professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [right-back](/source/Right_back) for [Auxerre](/source/AJ_Auxerre).

## Club career

Lamine Sy joined the [Stade Malherbe de Caen](/source/Stade_Malherbe_Caen) academy in 2014 from the Olympique of [les Mureaux](/source/Les_Mureaux), starting to play with the Norman team reserve in [National 3](/source/2019%E2%80%9320_Championnat_National_3) during the [2019–20 season](/source/2019%E2%80%9320_Stade_Malherbe_Caen_season).[1][2]

Playing only one game that season and during the [following one](/source/2020%E2%80%9321_Stade_Malherbe_Caen_season) in [National 2](/source/2020%E2%80%9321_Championnat_National_2), he eventually established himself as a regular starter with the reserve in 2021–22 under [Fabrice Vandeputte](/source/Fabrice_Vandeputte) management, earning his first calls to the first team in February 2022.[1][3]

He made his professional debut for [SM Caen](/source/SM_Caen) on the 5 February 2022, replacing the [right-back](/source/Right_back) [Hugo Vandermersch](/source/Hugo_Vandermersch) during a 1–1 away [Ligue 2](/source/2021%E2%80%9322_Ligue_2) away draw against [AS Nancy](/source/AS_Nancy_Lorraine).[4][5]

## Style of play

First playing as a midfielder, Sy was moved to the right-back position by [Vandeputte](/source/Fabrice_Vandeputte) where he became a starter in the reserve and played in Caen first team. He is described as a fast, powerful and agile footballer, able to make good use of his technical abilities to be decisive in the attacking phases.[1]

## Personal life

Having grown up in [Île-de-France](/source/%C3%8Ele-de-France), Lamine Sy is the younger brother of [Harouna Sy](/source/Harouna_Sy), who also plays professionally as a [fullback](/source/Fullback_(association_football)), at [Amiens](/source/Amiens_SC).[1]
