## History

The constituency was created in 1984 from a Rangpur constituency when the former Rangpur District was split into five districts: [Nilphamari](/source/Nilphamari_District), [Lalmonirhat](/source/Lalmonirhat_District), [Rangpur](/source/Rangpur_District), [Kurigram](/source/Kurigram_District), and [Gaibandha](/source/Gaibandha_District).

In the [2026 general elections](/source/2026_Bangladeshi_general_election), this victory was part of a "clean sweep" by the BNP in Lalmonirhat, where the party won all three parliamentary seats Including [Lalmonirhat-1](/source/Lalmonirhat-1), [Lalmonirhat-2](/source/Lalmonirhat-2), and Lalmonirhat-3, The election marked a significant shift as the BNP had not won these three specific seats since the [1979 General Elections](/source/1979_Bangladeshi_general_election).[3]
