He was elected to the [Lok Sabha](/source/Lok_Sabha), the lower house of the [Parliament of India](/source/Parliament_of_India), from the [Mandi constituency](/source/Mandi_Lok_Sabha_constituency), as a member of the [Indian National Congress](/source/Indian_National_Congress).

His father was Raja Lakshman Sen Bahadur, the last ruling king of the erstwhile princely state of [Suket](/source/Suket_State). Upon his father's death, Lalit Sen became the 51st titular Raja of Suket.
