**Lake Tuakitoto** is a small [lake](/source/Lake) in [South Otago](/source/South_Otago), on the [South Island](/source/South_Island) of New Zealand.[1] It is located to the northeast of [Balclutha](/source/Balclutha%2C_New_Zealand), close to the small town of [Kaitangata](/source/Kaitangata%2C_New_Zealand).[2] The smallest of South Otago's three main lakes, it is, like the others ([Lake Waihola](/source/Lake_Waihola) and [Lake Waipori](/source/Lake_Waipori)) very shallow.[3] The lake drains into the lower reaches of the [Clutha River](/source/Clutha_River).[3]
