# Lake Donald

**Lake Donald** is a freshwater [lakes](/source/Lake) located on the north slope of the [Chiwaukum Mountains](/source/Chiwaukum_Mountains), in [Chelan County](/source/Chelan_County,_Washington), [Washington](/source/Washington_(U.S._state)). The lake is a popular area for hiking, swimming, and fishing [Cutthroat trout](/source/Cutthroat_trout) and [Rainbow trout](/source/Rainbow_trout).[1] Self-issued Alpine Lake Wilderness permit required for transit within the Klonaqua Lakes area.[3]

## History

Lake Donald is one of the [Scottish Lakes](/source/Scottish_Lakes), which includes nearby [Lake Julius](/source/Lake_Julius), [Loch Eileen](/source/Loch_Eileen) and [Lake Ethel](/source/Lake_Ethel). The lakes were given names by [Albert Hale Sylvester](/source/Albert_Hale_Sylvester), a topographer for the [United States Geological Survey](/source/United_States_Geological_Survey) working throughout the [North Cascades National Park Complex](/source/North_Cascades_National_Park_Complex) around 1900, named after female family and friends of Sylvester.[4]
