Two of these camps were the only Nazi concentration camps on [British](/source/United_Kingdom) soil, the other two were labour camps. The labour housed in the camps were used by the OT in a [forced labour](/source/forced_labour) programme, to supply labour to build [fortifications](/source/Fortifications_of_Alderney) including [bunker](/source/bunker)s, gun emplacements, [air-raid shelter](/source/air-raid_shelter)s and other concrete defensive structures.
