# Lachnomyrmex

***Lachnomyrmex*** is a [Neotropical](/source/Neotropical) [genus](/source/Genus) of [ants](/source/Ant) in the [subfamily](/source/Subfamily) [Myrmicinae](/source/Myrmicinae).[1] The genus consists of 16 species restricted to the Neotropics, known from southern [Mexico](/source/Mexico) to northern [Argentina](/source/Argentina) (and [Trinidad](/source/Trinidad) just off the coast of [Venezuela](/source/Venezuela)). They are most often found in the [leaf litter](/source/Leaf_litter) of wet forests, with nests located on the ground. Workers forage alone, apparently without recruiting nestmates or using [pheromones](/source/Pheromone). Within the tribe [Stenammini](/source/Stenammini), they seem to be most closely related to the genera *[Lordomyrma](/source/Lordomyrma)* of [Indo-Australia](/source/Indo-Australian_Plate) and *[Cyphoidris](/source/Cyphoidris)* of Africa.[2]
