Weiland attended the [University of Notre Dame](/source/University_of_Notre_Dame), where he played for the [Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball](/source/Notre_Dame_Fighting_Irish_baseball) team. Weiland made his Major League debut on July 10, 2011 against the [Baltimore Orioles](/source/Baltimore_Orioles). Weiland subsequently missed the 2013 season because of injury.
