After a [Canadian](/source/Canadians) minor junior league career with the [Toronto Jr. Canadiens](/source/Toronto_Jr._Canadiens) and the [Cornwall Colts](/source/Cornwall_Colts), Baun opted to pursue a collegiate career in committing with [Colgate University](/source/Colgate_University) of the [ECAC](/source/ECAC_Hockey) conference.
