# Kyla Scanlon

**Kyla Scanlon** (born 1997)[1] is an American financial content creator, educator, and author.

## Early life and education

Kyla Scanlon was born in [Louisville, Kentucky](/source/Louisville,_Kentucky) in 1997.[1][2] Scanlon graduated from [Western Kentucky University](/source/Western_Kentucky_University)'s Gordon Ford College of Business in 2019, triple majoring in [financial management](/source/Financial_management), [economics](/source/Economics), and [business data analytics](/source/Business_analytics).[2][3]

## Career

From 2019 to 2021, Scanlon worked in [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles) for [Capital Group](/source/Capital_Group_Companies) in their asset management division, conducting macroeconomic analysis and modeling investment strategies.[2][4] Scanlon later founded Bread, a financial education company.[4]

In June 2022, Scanlon coined the term "[vibecession](/source/Vibecession)", a [portmanteau](/source/Portmanteau) of the words *[vibes](/source/Aura_(paranormal))* and *[recession](/source/Recession)*, in her newsletter about Americans' view of their economy.[5][6] The term was created by Scanlon to describe public perception of the [American economy](/source/Economy_of_the_United_States) [during the presidency](/source/Economic_policy_of_the_Biden_administration) of [Joe Biden](/source/Joe_Biden).[6]

Her first book, *In This Economy?: How Money and Markets Really Work*, was published in 2024.[7][8]
