# Kuratica

**Kuratica** (Macedonian: Куратица) or slang **Kurajca** (Macedonian: Курајца) is a [village](/source/Village) in the [municipality](/source/Municipalities_of_North_Macedonia) of [Ohrid](/source/Ohrid_Municipality), [North Macedonia](/source/North_Macedonia). It used to be part of the former municipality of [Kosel](/source/Kosel,_North_Macedonia).

## Name

The placename *Kuratica* is possibly an [Aromanian](/source/Aromanian_language) toponym derived from the word *curát* meaning clear, fast, clean alongside the suffix *ica*.[1] The village is located near a fast running mountain stream.[1]

## Demographics

According to the statistics of [Bulgarian](/source/Bulgarians) ethnographer [Vasil Kanchov](/source/Vasil_Kanchov) from 1900, 395 inhabitants lived in Kuratica, all Bulgarian Christians.[2]

According to the 2002 census, the village had a total of 326 inhabitants.[3] Ethnic groups in the village include:[3]
