The '''Kulsi River''' is a [tributary](/source/tributary) of the [Brahmaputra River](/source/Brahmaputra_River) in the Indian state of [Assam](/source/Assam). The river originates from [West Khasi Hills](/source/West_Khasi_Hills) of [Meghalaya](/source/Meghalaya). The river is known as Khir River in its origin. After travelling 12 km in [Meghalaya](/source/Meghalaya), the river then flows through [Kamrup district](/source/Kamrup_district) of [Assam](/source/Assam) and is known as Kulsi. The confluence of the Kulsi with [Brahmaputra River](/source/Brahmaputra_River) is at Nagarbera of [Kamrup district](/source/Kamrup_district), [Assam](/source/Assam).{{citation needed|date=January 2021}}

==Habitat of Dolphin==
The Kulsi river is the habitat of endangered [South Asian river dolphin](/source/South_Asian_river_dolphin) (''Platanista gangetica''). This endangered dolphin (known as ''Xihu'' in [Assamese language](/source/Assamese_language)) breeds only in the [Subansiri](/source/Subansiri_River) and Kulsi rivers across the entire [Brahmaputra delta](/source/Ganges_Delta).<ref>{{cite web|url=https://shodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in/bitstream/10603/184796/17/17_summary.pdf |title= Summary of Dolphin habitat zone of river Kulsi}}</ref> However, sand mining and other development activities make dolphins in the Kulsi vulnerable and the numbers of this endangered dolphin have sharply declined.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://nenow.in/north-east-news/assam/brahmaputra-tributaries-no-longer-secure-dolphin-habitats.html |title= Brahmaputra tributaries no longer secure dolphin habitats|website=Northeast Now|language=en|access-date=23 January 2019}}</ref>
