'''Kuchug''' was a [Pecheneg](/source/Pecheneg) [khan](/source/Khan_(title)) who ruled during the 990s CE. The ''[Nikol'sk Chronicle](/source/Nikol'sk_Chronicle)'' relates that Kuchug converted to [Christianity](/source/Christianity) around the year 990 (most likely as a result of [Vladimir the Great](/source/Vladimir_the_Great)'s Christianization). The Chronicle states that Kuchug "served Vladimir with a pure heart". The name of Kuchug means 'little, small' in [Turkic](/source/Turkic_languages). He was preceded as khan by [Metiga](/source/Metiga), and his rule began no earlier than around 988 (but had certainly begun by 991;<ref>{{cite book|last1=Curta|first1=Florin|title=The Other Europe in the Middle Ages|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=JAKwCQAAQBAJ&q=kuchug+khan&pg=PA442|date=12 December 2007|publisher=Brill Academic Publishers|isbn=9789047423560|accessdate=14 May 2016}}</ref> no exact date can be pinpointed for the beginning of his reign.
