# Krishna Winston

**Krishna Winston** is an American academic and translator of [German literature](/source/German_literature).[1] She is the daughter of translators [Richard and Clara Winston](/source/Richard_and_Clara_Winston).[2] She obtained her [BA](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) at [Smith College](/source/Smith_College), followed by an [MPhil](/source/Master_of_Philosophy) and a doctorate from [Yale University](/source/Yale_University). She is currently the Marcus L. Taft Professor of German Language and Literature at [Wesleyan University](/source/Wesleyan_University).[3]

She has translated more than 30 books, including works by [Oskar Schlemmer](/source/Oskar_Schlemmer), [Golo Mann](/source/Golo_Mann), [Grete Weil](/source/Grete_Weil), [Christoph Hein](/source/Christoph_Hein), [Peter Handke](/source/Peter_Handke), [Werner Herzog](/source/Werner_Herzog), and [Günter Grass](/source/G%C3%BCnter_Grass). She has received several prizes for excellence in translation. These include the [Schlegel-Tieck Prize](/source/Schlegel-Tieck_Prize) (twice) and the [Kurt and Helen Wolff Prize](/source/Kurt_and_Helen_Wolff_Prize).
