# Kris Berry

**Kris Berry** (born [Curaçao](/source/Cura%C3%A7ao), 1982) is a Dutch singer.[1][2]

## Career

In 2011, Berry performed at [North Sea Jazz Festival](/source/North_Sea_Jazz_Festival).[3] Her debut album *Marbles* was released in 2012 with [Wicked Jazz Sounds Recordings](/source/Wicked_Jazz_Sounds_Recordings).[4][5]

In August 2013 she performed at the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival.[6][2] Berry and [Perquisite](/source/Perquisite) released *Lovestruck Puzzles* with [Unexpected Records](/source/Unexpected_Records) in September 2013.[7]

In October 2014, Berry opened for [Caro Emerald](/source/Caro_Emerald) during her 11-day tour in the UK, including the [O2 Arena](/source/The_O2_Arena) and [SSE Hydro](/source/SSE_Hydro).[8] In November 2014, Berry performed at [TEDxAmsterdam](/source/TEDxAmsterdam).[9]In May 2017, Berry released her new album *Berry Street* at [TivoliVredenburg](/source/TivoliVredenburg) in Utrecht.[10] The album was recorded in [Brooklyn](/source/Brooklyn), New York and produced with producers Jesse Singer and Chris Soper.[11] She subsequently toured the Netherlands, including at [Sugarfactory](/source/Sugarfactory) in Amsterdam and Metropool in [Hengelo](/source/Hengelo).[12]

In 2018, Berry opened fourteen shows in the UK for [Gregory Porter](/source/Gregory_Porter),[13][14] including at the [Royal Albert Hall](/source/Royal_Albert_Hall) in London, and [O2 Apollo](/source/O2_Apollo_Manchester) in Manchester.[15][16]

In May 2022, it was revealed Berry is on the jury for [Eurovision Song Contest 2022](/source/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2022).[17]

## Reception

In February 2011, Berry won the [NPO Radio 6](/source/NPO_Radio_2_Soul_%26_Jazz) Soul & Jazz Talent award.[19][20] In the summer of 2011 she was invited to perform at [North Sea Jazz Festival](/source/North_Sea_Jazz_Festival) in Rotterdam,[21] and again in 2013 at the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival.[6][2]

Erwin Zijleman, Dutch music reviewer, described her 2012 debut album *Marbles* as "jazzy pop music with substance".[11]

The 2013 single *Hold On* became a [3FM Megahit](/source/3FM_Megahit) at the [3FM](/source/NPO_3FM) national radio station in the Netherlands.[22]

[The Herald](/source/The_Herald_(Glasgow)) described Berry as having "astonishingly pure but powerful vocals" after her 2014 performance at The Hydro in Glasgow.[23]

Zijleman describes the Berry Street album as "breating quality" powered by Berry's "fantastic voice".[11]

As of April 2020, Berry has over 300,000 monthly listeners on [Spotify](/source/Spotify).[24] Her song *Hold On* from the album *Berry Street* reached 10 million streams in October 2019[25] and 20 million streams by June 2022.[26]
