The massif falls within the [Balkan mixed forests](/source/Balkan_mixed_forests) terrestrial [ecoregion](/source/ecoregion) of the [Palearctic](/source/Palearctic_realm) [temperate broadleaf and mixed forests](/source/temperate_broadleaf_and_mixed_forests) [biome](/source/biome). The slopes of the mountain [meadow](/source/meadow)s are mostly covered with [coniferous](/source/coniferous) forests. The high pastures of the Koritnik mountain help sustain a population of around 60 [chamois](/source/chamois).
Koritnik is also part of the [Korab-Koritnik Nature Park](/source/Korab-Koritnik_Nature_Park), forming the [European Green Belt](/source/European_Green_Belt).
