The '''Knappensee''', also known as the '''Knappenrode reservoir''' ([German](/source/German_language): ''Speicher Knappenrode''; [Upper Sorbian](/source/Upper_Sorbian_language): ''Hórnikečanski jězor''), is a lake and former open-pit mine located southeast of [Hoyerswerda](/source/Hoyerswerda) in the state of [Saxony](/source/Saxony), [Germany](/source/Germany).

The Knappensee is named after the town of Knappenrode to the north and is primarily located within the municipality of [Lohsa](/source/Lohsa). The lake was formed by two flood events in May and June 1945, which resulted in the inundation of the Werminghoff lignite open-pit mine.<ref name="Meyer/Zutz">{{cite book |last1=Meyer |first1=Thorsten |last2=Zutz |first2=Axel |title="Auf dem Weg zum Senftenberger Seengebiet.
