This article is about the cargo vessel. For the Los Angeles radio station, see [KLOS](/source/KLOS).

***Klos C*** was a [Marshall Islands](/source/Marshall_Islands)-owned, [Panamanian](/source/Panama)-[registered](/source/Ship_registration) [merchant](/source/Merchant_vessel) [cargo ship](/source/Cargo_ship).[2] The *Klos C* was built in 1996, in [Saint Petersburg](/source/Saint_Petersburg), [Russia](/source/Russia) by the shipbuilders [Severnaya Verf](/source/Severnaya_Verf). At the time of its christening, it was briefly known by the name *Otztal*, after which its name was changed to *Klostertal* and then *Klos C* in July, 2012.[3]

## Operation Full Disclosure

On March 5, 2014, the [Israeli Navy](/source/Israeli_Navy) boarded the vessel in the [Red Sea](/source/Red_Sea) during [Operation Full Disclosure](/source/Operation_Full_Disclosure), suspecting that it was carrying weapons destined for militant groups in the [Gaza Strip](/source/Gaza_Strip) from the [Islamic Republic of Iran](/source/Islamic_Republic_of_Iran). A large quantity of [long-range missiles](/source/Long-range_missile), identified by the [Israel Defense Forces](/source/Israel_Defense_Forces) (IDF) as [M-302s](/source/List_of_rocket_artillery), were found concealed under bags of [Portland cement](/source/Portland_cement) on the ship, which was then directed to berth in [Israel](/source/Israel).[4] With the *Klos C* secured by the IDF, and with the cooperation of its captain, the [Panamanian flag](/source/Panamanian_flag) it had been sailing under was lowered, and the [flag of Israel](/source/Flag_of_Israel) as well as the Israeli Navy [ensign](/source/Ensign_(flag)) were raised. The freighter was then escorted to Israel in a convoy.[5] After docking in the port city of [Eilat](/source/Eilat), the Israelis unloaded the *Klos C*'s cargo and discovered an additional 181 [mortars](/source/Mortar_(weapon)), and 400,000 rounds of ammunition meant to be used in assault rifles. Israel seized the cargo, and placed it on public display.[6]

Following the search of the ship and confiscation of weapons found on board, Israel released the vessel and its crew, and the *Klos C* returned to service.[citation needed]

A [UN](/source/United_Nations) expert panel later concluded that, while the shipment came from Iran, it was headed for [Sudan](/source/Sudan) rather than the Gaza Strip.[7] The [United States](/source/United_States) also had plans to intercept the vessel.[8]
