**Klipplaat** is a town in the [Sarah Baartman District Municipality](/source/Sarah_Baartman_District_Municipality) in the [Eastern Cape](/source/Eastern_Cape) province of [South Africa](/source/South_Africa).

The town is some 185 km north-west of [Port Elizabeth](/source/Port_Elizabeth) and 75 km south-east of [Aberdeen](/source/Aberdeen%2C_Eastern_Cape).[2] It takes its name from large slabs of rock on the surface of the ground; from [Afrikaans](/source/Afrikaans) *klip*: 'stone' or 'rock'; *plaat*: 'sheet' or 'slab'.[3]
