**Kizhuparamba** or **Keezhuparamba** is a village and [panchayath](/source/Panchayath) on the northern boundary of [Malappuram](/source/Malappuram) district in [Kerala](/source/Kerala), [India](/source/India).

Kizhuparamba is situated on the banks of the [Chaliyar](/source/Chaliyar) River and on the border of Malappuram and Kozhikode districts. Kizhuparamba is one of the smallest panchayaths in [Malappuram district](/source/Malappuram_district). Kizhuparamba panchayat was formed on 1 August 1977 from the former Urngattiri Panchayat. It has a geographical area of 14.99 km2, which is 0.42 percent of the total area of the Malappuram District. Kerala State Highway (SH) 34 (Koyilandy-Edavanna) passes through Kizhuparamba Village.

It is located at the end of Malapuram district. Three parts are surrounded by the river [Chaliyar](/source/Chaliyar), which makes it a [peninsula](/source/Peninsula). As the land is fertile, most of the population is farmers. The total population is around 20,000. [Islam](/source/Islam) constitutes the majority religion, with over 90% of the population reporting as Muslims.

## Etymology

Kizhuparamba is derived from *keezhparamba*, meaning **low land** in [Malayalam](/source/Malayalam) language. **Keezh** means "low" and **paramba** means "land". The name is believed to be attributed to the low geography of the village, which is situated in the valley of many small hills. Some of the areas in the village lie below the monsoon water level of [Chaliyar](/source/Chaliyar) river and gets submerged under river water during [monsoon](/source/Monsoon) months.

## History

It is believed that [Tippu Sultan](/source/Tippu_Sultan) (1782–1799)'s army used Kizhuparamba in their route from Feroke to Mysore. There was a very old route from Perunkadavu (Kuniyil)-Thrikkalayur-Kodityathur-Thamarassery-Mysore. Kizhuparamba was one of the main centres of the Khilafat movement in the 1920s.[1]

Kizhuparamba connects to other parts of India through [Feroke](/source/Feroke) on the west and [Nilambur](/source/Nilambur) on the east. [National Highway 66](/source/National_Highway_66_(India)) passes through [Pulikkal](/source/Pulikkal) and the northern stretch connects to [Goa](/source/Goa) and [Mumbai](/source/Mumbai). The southern stretch connects to [Cochin](/source/Cochin) and [Trivandrum](/source/Trivandrum). Kerala State Highway 28 starts from Nilambur and connects to [Ooty](/source/Ooty), [Mysore](/source/Mysore) and [Bangalore](/source/Bangalore) through Highways 12,29 and 181. The nearest airport is at [Kozhikode](/source/Kozhikode_Airport). The nearest major railway station is at [Feroke](/source/Feroke).
