# Kitbuilders

**Kitbuilders** are an electro-duo (singer Ripley, keyboardist Benway) from Cologne, Germany. Their style is a mixture of [Electro](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discussion%3AElectro), New Wave and IDM. Benway played in the Band "[Les Immer Essen](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Immer_Essen)" (together with [Joerg Burger](/source/J%C3%B6rg_Burger); signed to EMI) before he founded Kitbuilders in 1997 with Ripley. They are influenced by bands like [Suicide](/source/Suicide) and Chris & Cosey. Kitbuilders (and acts like [ADULT.](/source/ADULT.)) pioneered the [Electroclash](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroclash)/ [Electropunk](/source/Electropunk)-movement. Kitbuilders released on labels like [Electrecord](/source/Electrecord), World Electric, [Ersatz Audio](/source/Ersatz_Audio) (the label of ADULT.) Television, Breakin´ Records (the label of [DMX Krew](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/DMX_Krew)), Vertical, Art Of Perception, [Play It Again Sam](/source/PIAS_Recordings) many more. Kitbuilders received Radio airplay from DJs like [Dave Clarke](/source/Dave_Clarke_(techno_DJ)),[1] [Laurent Garnier](/source/Laurent_Garnier), [DJ Hell](/source/DJ_Hell), [Larry Tee](/source/Larry_Tee), [John Peel](/source/John_Peel), [Andrew Weatherall](/source/Andrew_Weatherall) (they were signed to his agency Haywire) and others. Kitbuilders worked with artist [Eric Parnes](/source/Eric_Parnes) (music for an installation in New York) and contributed a track to the soundtrack of the [Loveparade](/source/Loveparade)-movie Be Angeled.The Kitbuilders album “You Trashed My Tracks” (2013, Vertical / [Kompakt](/source/Kompakt)) features remixes by Terrence Dixon, Bolz Bolz, [Bob Humid](/source/Bob_Humid), [Ascii Disko](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ascii.Disko), Falko Brocksieper, [Keith Tenniswood](/source/Keith_Tenniswood) aka Radioactive Man, Salz and others. In 2020 they contributed to the Carebots compilation (Bass Agenda Recordings).[2] Kitbuilders played gigs in London, New York, San Francisco, Oslo, Berlin, Madrid, Brussels, Helsinki, Istanbul, Tel Aviv and on Festivals like [Roskilde-Festival](/source/Roskilde_Festival), [Sónar](/source/S%C3%B3nar), [Arvika](/source/Arvika_Festival), Benicassim,[3] Fusion Festival, Eurosonic, Dedbeat Weekender[4] and in clubs like [Tresor](/source/Tresor_(club)), [Fabric](/source/Fabric_(club)) (they also contributed a track for the [Fabric 8](/source/Fabric_08) compilation), Distillery,[5] The Egg and many more.
