**Kirsty Rae Hanson** (born 17 April 1998) is a professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [forward](/source/Forward_(association_football)) for English [Women's Super League](/source/Women's_Super_League) club [Aston Villa](/source/Aston_Villa_W.F.C.) and the [Scotland national team](/source/Scotland_women's_national_football_team).

Hanson began her career in the youth ranks of [Manchester United](/source/Manchester_United_W.F.C.) before spending a year with the [Liverpool](/source/Liverpool_F.C._Women) Development Squad. She made her senior debut with [Sheffield FC](/source/Sheffield_F.C._Ladies) before joining [Doncaster Rovers Belles](/source/Doncaster_Rovers_Belles_L.F.C.) in late 2016. Hanson returned to her former club in July 2018, following the introduction of a senior team at Manchester United.

## Club career

### Early career

Hanson spent her early years in the [Manchester United](/source/Manchester_United_W.F.C.) Centre of Excellence, before joining [Liverpool](/source/Liverpool_F.C._Women) due to her limited opportunities to progress with her former club.[2]

### Sheffield F.C.

In June 2016, Hanson joined [FA WSL 2](/source/FA_WSL_2) club [Sheffield F.C.](/source/Sheffield_F.C._Ladies)[3] She made a total of 10 appearances during the [2016 FA WSL season](/source/2016_FA_WSL).[4]

### Doncaster Rovers Belles

In December 2016, Hanson became the [Doncaster Rovers Belles](/source/Doncaster_Rovers_Belles_L.F.C.)' first signing ahead of the [2017 FA WSL Spring Series](/source/2017_FA_WSL).[5] She scored three times in nine appearances in her inaugural campaign, and became a key figure in the squad for the Championship Title Winning Side[2017–18 season](/source/2017%E2%80%9318_FA_WSL).

On 29 October 2017, Hanson scored twice in a 6–0 victory against [Aston Villa](/source/Aston_Villa_L.F.C.).[6] She also scored braces in a 4–1 victory against [Brighton & Hove Albion](/source/Brighton_%26_Hove_Albion_W.F.C.) in January 2018, and in a 3–1 win against [Durham](/source/Durham_W.F.C.) in April.[7][8]

### Manchester United

On 1 July 2018, Hanson joined the newly-formed [Manchester United](/source/Manchester_United_W.F.C.) to compete in the [FA Women's Championship](/source/FA_Women's_Championship), one of seven players to return to the senior side having played for the club at youth level.[9][10][11] She made her debut in a 1–0 [FA Women's League Cup](/source/FA_Women's_League_Cup) victory against former club [Liverpool](/source/Liverpool_F.C._Women) on 19 August, and marked her league debut with a brace in a 12–0 win against [Aston Villa](/source/Aston_Villa_L.F.C.).[12][13] Hanson made her first start of the [2019–20 season](/source/2019%E2%80%9320_Manchester_United_W.F.C._season) against [Tottenham Hotspur](/source/Tottenham_Hotspur_F.C._Women) in the [FA Women's Super League](/source/FA_Women's_Super_League) on 13 October 2019, scoring the first goal as United won 3–0.[14] She was named FA WSL player of the month for October 2019.[15]

Ahead of the [2020–21 season](/source/2020%E2%80%9321_Manchester_United_W.F.C._season), Hanson signed a new one-year contract with an option for a further year.[16] On 3 February 2021 Hanson signed a new deal with Manchester United until 2024 with the option to extend it for a further year.[17]

On 8 September 2022, Hanson joined fellow WSL side [Aston Villa](/source/Aston_Villa_W.F.C.) on loan for the [2022–23 season](/source/2022%E2%80%9323_Aston_Villa_W.F.C._season).[18]

### Aston Villa

On 11 August 2023, Aston Villa signed Hanson permanently on a two-year deal with the option to extend for a further year.[19][20] In the [2023–24 FA Women's League Cup](/source/2023%E2%80%9324_FA_Women's_League_Cup) quarter-final against [Brighton & Hove Albion](/source/Brighton_%26_Hove_Albion_W.F.C.), Hanson scored the equaliser to make it 1–1. Aston Villa advanced on penalties.[21] On 18 July 2025, it was announced that Hanson's contract had been extended to June 2027.[22] Her goal in a 2–0 win against [West Ham](/source/West_Ham_United_F.C._Women) on 5 October 2025 was named as the WSL Goal of the Month.[23]

## International career

Hanson was eligible to represent England, having been born in [Halifax](/source/Halifax%2C_West_Yorkshire), and Scotland, where her mother was born.[24]

She played for Scotland at the [under-17](/source/Scotland_women's_national_under-17_football_team) and [under-19](/source/Scotland_women's_national_under-19_football_team) levels, and scored their only goal at the [2017 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship](/source/2017_UEFA_Women's_Under-19_Championship). This came in a 1–1 draw against host nation [Northern Ireland](/source/Northern_Ireland_women's_national_under-19_football_team).[25]

In November 2019, after [Martha Thomas](/source/Martha_Thomas_(soccer)) was forced to withdraw through injury, Hanson received her first senior call-up to the [Scotland national team](/source/Scotland_women's_national_football_team) for a [UEFA Women's Euro 2021 qualifier](/source/UEFA_Women's_Euro_2021_qualifying_Group_E) away to [Albania](/source/Albania_women's_national_football_team).[26] She made her debut starting in the 5–0 victory over Albania on 8 November and was named player of the match.[27] Hanson scored her first international goal on 19 February 2021 during a 10–0 [UEFA Euro 2022 qualifying](/source/UEFA_Women's_Euro_2022_qualifying_Group_E) victory away to [Cyprus](/source/Cyprus_women's_national_football_team).[28]
