# Kipfenberg

**Kipfenberg** is a town and [municipality](/source/Municipalities_of_Germany) in the district of [Eichstätt](/source/Eichst%C3%A4tt_(district)) in [Bavaria](/source/Bavaria), Germany. It is known for its [hillside castle](/source/Hillside_castle) and fortress, and for being the geographical centre of Bavaria. The river [Altmühl](/source/Altm%C3%BChl) flows through the municipality and its [market town](/source/Market_town) of Kipfenberg.

[Franz Widnmann](/source/Franz_Widnmann) (1846–1910), painter, graphic artist, and professor at the [Royal School of Applied Arts](/source/Academy_of_Fine_Arts,_Munich) in [Munich](/source/Munich), was born at Kipfenberg.[2] [Konrad Schumann](/source/Konrad_Schumann) (1942–1998), a former soldier for [East Berlin](/source/East_Berlin) hanged himself in an orchard in Kipfenberg.
