# Kinare (tribe)

**Kinare** is a name given to one of the sub-tribes of the [Ogiek](/source/Ogiek) community which is found within [Kenya](/source/Kenya). The original name is Akiek pa Kinare. They generally spoke a [Kalenjin](/source/Kalenjin_languages) dialect. A pre-colonial [Kikuyu](/source/Kikuyu_people) leader by the name of [Waiyaki Wa Hinga](/source/Waiyaki_Wa_Hinga) had some roots in this community which has led to many theories being created about him being a [Kalenjin](/source/Kalenjin_people) and not a Kikuyu.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]
