# Kil, Telemark

**Kil** (sometimes called *Sannidal*) is a village in [Kragerø Municipality](/source/Krager%C3%B8_Municipality) in [Telemark](/source/Telemark) county, [Norway](/source/Norway). The village is located along the [European route E18](/source/European_route_E18) highway, at the innermost part of the [Kilsfjorden](/source/Kilsfjord,_Telemark). The village lies about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) west of the villages of [Vadfoss](/source/Vadfoss) and [Helle](/source/Helle,_Telemark) and about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) to the northwest of the [town of Kragerø](/source/Krager%C3%B8_(town)). [Sannidal Church](/source/Sannidal_Church) is located just west of the village.[1]

The 0.87-square kilometre (210-acre) village has a population (2022) of 997 and a [population density](/source/Population_density) of 1,140 inhabitants per square kilometre (3,000 /sq mi).[2]

Historically, the village of Kil was the [administrative centre](/source/Administrative_centre) of the old municipality of [Sannidal](/source/Sannidal). Kil is an old port where timber and ice was loaded on boats and shipped elsewhere.[1]
