It also borders on the municipality of [Zonhoven](/source/Zonhoven) to the north and [Genk](/source/Genk) to the east, with [Kuringen](/source/Kuringen), another part of Hasselt, to the west. ==History== Until the 20th century, Kiewit was relatively uninhabited and was composed of open [heathland](/source/heathland) and [pasture](/source/pasture)s between the older settlements at Kuringen, Hasselt, Zonhoven, and Bokrijk. Kiewit is the section of these lands which was claimed by Hasselt. It touches the Provincial domain of [Bokrijk](/source/Bokrijk), in [Genk](/source/Genk), and is also linked to it with bicycle paths.
