**Kiakkai** alternatively **Kiak Kai** ([Thai](/source/Thai_language): เกียกกาย, pronounced [\[kìa̯k.kāːj\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Thai)) is an intersection and neighbourhood in Bangkok's [Thanon Nakhon Chai Si Subdistrict](/source/Thanon_Nakhon_Chai_Si_Subdistrict), [Dusit District](/source/Dusit_District).

The term *Kiakkai* is an old Thai word meaning "Provisions Department" (comparable to the current Quartermaster Department).

The neighborhood is the site of many [Royal Thai Army](/source/Royal_Thai_Army) (RTA) bases: the 1st Cavalry Regiment, King's Guard (กรมทหารม้าที่ 1 รักษาพระองค์); 1st Field Artillery Battalion, King's Guard (กรมทหารปืนใหญ่ที่ 1 รักษาพระองค์); [4th Cavalry Division King's Guard](/source/4th_Tank_Battalion_(Thailand)) (กองพันทหารม้าที่ 4 รักษาพระองค์); and Military Armoured Vehicle Radio Station (สถานีวิทยุยานเกราะ). Often, these units have supported [coups](/source/Coup) such as the [Siamese revolution of 1932](/source/Siamese_revolution_of_1932), the [Thammasat University massacre](/source/Thammasat_University_massacre), [the 1981 April rebellion](/source/1981_Thai_military_rebellion), and [the September 9th rebellion](/source/1985_Thai_coup_d'%C3%A9tat_attempt).[1][2][3]

Kiakkai is home to the [Sappaya-Sapasathan](/source/Sappaya-Sapasathan), the current [Parliament House of Thailand](/source/Parliament_House_of_Thailand).[4] It is built on the site of the [Yothinburana School](/source/Yothinburana_School).[5] There is a [megaproject](/source/Megaproject) to build a bridge across the [Chao Phraya River](/source/Chao_Phraya_River), 5.9 km (about 3 mi) long, to [Charan Sanitwong Road](/source/Charan_Sanitwong_Road) in [Thonburi](/source/Thonburi)'s [Bang Phlat District](/source/Bang_Phlat_District).[6] The impact from the construction of the bridge caused the three-way [footbridge](/source/Footbridge) over the intersection to be demolished.
