The **KiHa 71 series** (キハ71系) is a [diesel multiple unit](/source/Diesel_multiple_unit) (DMU) train type operated by [Kyushu Railway Company](/source/Kyushu_Railway_Company) exclusively on the *[Yufuin no Mori](/source/Yufuin_no_Mori)* service in [Kyushu](/source/Kyushu), Japan.[1]

One 3-car set was introduced on March 11, 1989 and was converted from former [KiHa 58](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=KiHa_58_series&action=edit&redlink=1) and [KiHa 65](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=KiHa_65_series&action=edit&redlink=1) DMU cars with new bodies. In April 1990, the train was lengthened to 4 cars with the addition of KiHa 70-2.
