**Khlong Tan Nuea** ([Thai](/source/Thai_language): คลองตันเหนือ, pronounced [\[kʰlɔ̄ːŋ tān nɯ̌a̯\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Thai)) is a *[khwaeng](/source/Khwaeng)* (subdistrict) of [Watthana District](/source/Watthana_District), in [Bangkok](/source/Bangkok), [Thailand](/source/Thailand). In 2020, it had a total population of 49,971 people.[2]

## Toponymy

Its name means "North Khlong Tan", according to its direction. [Khlong Tan](/source/Khlong_Tan) is a tributary on the left side of [Khlong Saen Saep](/source/Khlong_Saen_Saep), the longest *[khlong](/source/Khlong)* (canal) in Thailand was excavated in the early [Rattanakosin period](/source/Rattanakosin_period) around the reign of [King Rama III](/source/King_Rama_III) that flows through this vicinity.

Khlong Saen Saep confluence Khlong Tan in the area like a three way junction. Hence, this vicinity was called Khlong Tan as well.[3]
