'''Khati''' is a Hindu [sub-caste](/source/Caste_system_in_India) of [Vishwakarma](/source/Vishwakarma_(caste)) community which mainly resides in the northern Indian states of [Rajasthan](/source/Rajasthan),<ref name=":1">{{Cite web |last=Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Government of Rajasthan |title=List of Caste OBC |url=https://sje.rajasthan.gov.in/Default.aspx?PageID=67 |access-date=2024-10-26 |website=sje.rajasthan.gov.in}}</ref> [Haryana](/source/Haryana),<ref name=":2">{{cite book |author=Michael Levien |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=Z5NODwAAQBAJ&dq=Khati+carpenter+caste&pg=PA67 |title=Dispossession Without Development | date=5 March 2018 |publisher=OUP |page=67| isbn=978-0-19-085917-6 }}</ref> [Punjab](/source/Punjab%2C_India)<ref>Department of School Education-Punjab. In [Marwar](/source/Marwar), a [carpenter](/source/Carpentry) is called a "Khati". It seems that the word Khati has been derived from the word Kath ([https://hi.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E0%A4%95%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%A0#:~:text=%E0%A5%A7.,%5D%20%E0%A4%A6%E0%A5%87%E0%A5%B0%20'%E0%A4%95%E0%A4%A0%E0%A4%AA%E0%A5%81%E0%A4%A4%E0%A4%B2%E0%A5%80'%20%E0%A5%A4 काठ]). Kath means [wood](/source/wood) and Khatis are engaged in the business of making wooden articles as carpenters.<ref name=":2" /> A Khati is the same person who is called a Badai ([बढ़ई](/source/%3Ahi%3A%E0%A4%AC%E0%A4%A2%E0%A4%BC%E0%A4%88)) in the North West and [Tarkhan](/source/Tarkhan_(Punjab)) in Punjab. He is called [Sutar](/source/Sutradhar_(caste)) in [Gorwar](/source/Gorwar) district, and Vinayak in [Jalore district](/source/Jalore_district).<ref name=":0">{{Cite book |last=Bajrang Lal Lohiya |url=https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.483898 |title=Rajasthan Ki Jatiya |date=1954 |publisher=Bajranglal Lohiya |location=Kolkata |pages=178–179 |language=hi}}</ref>

The people of Khati caste believe that they originated from [Vishwakarma](/source/Vishvakarma) and respect their [oath](/source/oath)s very much.<ref name=":0" />
