**Khandowa** (Urdu: کھنڈوعہ) is a [town](/source/Town) in the [Kallar Kahar Tehsil](/source/Kallar_Kahar_Tehsil) of [Chakwal District](/source/Chakwal_District) in [Punjab](/source/Punjab,_Pakistan), [Pakistan](/source/Pakistan). The town's natural environment includes a number of historical [lakes](/source/Lake) and [resorts](/source/Resorts).[citation needed] Khandowa is 8 km from [Kallar Kahar](/source/Kallar_Kahar), 36 km from [Chakwal](/source/Chakwal), 114 km from [Islamabad](/source/Islamabad) and 101 km from [Rawalpindi](/source/Rawalpindi) in a northerly direction.

## Name and history

The word "Khandowa" is derived from [Punjabi](/source/Punjabi_language) word khand, meaning sweet.
