# Kevin Bookout

**Kevin Bookout** (born March 16, 1983) is an American former professional [basketball](/source/Basketball) player. Born in [Stroud, Oklahoma](/source/Stroud,_Oklahoma), he attended Stroud High School where he competed in basketball, [baseball](/source/Baseball), [shot put](/source/Shot_put) and [discus](/source/Discus).[1] He played [college basketball](/source/College_basketball) for the [Oklahoma Sooners](/source/Oklahoma_Sooners_men's_basketball) as he wanted to attend a college with quality basketball and [track-and-field](/source/Track-and-field) programs.[1] While with the Sooners basketball team, Bookout scored 1,018 points and pulled in 682 rebounds. He also participated on the track team and appeared in the [2007 NCAA finals in shot put](/source/2007_NCAA_Division_I_Outdoor_Track_and_Field_Championships#Shot_Put).

Bookout aspired to earn a spot on the United States shot put team for the [2008 Olympics](/source/2008_Summer_Olympics) but delayed his efforts until the [2012 Olympics](/source/2012_Summer_Olympics).[2] He instead played basketball professionally with the [Rio Grande Valley Vipers](/source/Rio_Grande_Valley_Vipers) in 2007.[2][3]

Bookout worked out for the [New York Jets](/source/New_York_Jets) of the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL) in 2012.[4]
