**Kent Beyda** (born October 11, 1953) is an American [film editor](/source/Film_editor).[1]

## Life and career

Beyda worked as an assistant editor on [John Cassavetes](/source/John_Cassavetes)' *[Opening Night](/source/Opening_Night_(1977_film))* (1977), [Allan Arkush](/source/Allan_Arkush)'s *[Rock 'n' Roll High School](/source/Rock_'n'_Roll_High_School)* (1979), and [Joe Dante](/source/Joe_Dante)'s *[The Howling](/source/The_Howling_(film))* (1981). He then moved into editing on the [Julie Corman](/source/Julie_Corman)-produced *[Saturday the 14th](/source/Saturday_the_14th)* (1981). On that film Beyda met his wife Nancy who was at that time working as Corman's assistant. He went on to do a series of music videos for [Rod Stewart](/source/Rod_Stewart), [Elvis Costello](/source/Elvis_Costello), [Dokken](/source/Dokken), [Bette Midler](/source/Bette_Midler) and [Mick Jagger](/source/Mick_Jagger), [Aldo Nova](/source/Aldo_Nova), [Barbra Streisand](/source/Barbra_Streisand), and Arkush's follow-up to *Rock 'n' Roll High School* called *[Get Crazy](/source/Get_Crazy)* (1983). He then edited the mockumentary *[This Is Spinal Tap](/source/This_Is_Spinal_Tap)* (1984).

Beyda's first film for a major studio was *[Fright Night](/source/Fright_Night)* (1985), a horror comedy for [Columbia Pictures](/source/Columbia_Pictures). Next he edited *[Out of Bounds](/source/Out_of_Bounds_(1986_film))* (1986), directed by Richard Tuggle for Columbia. He has worked on location in New York, Paris, San Francisco, Atlanta, Vancouver, Australia, and New Zealand. He is a member of [American Cinema Editors](/source/American_Cinema_Editors) and the [Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences](/source/Academy_of_Motion_Picture_Arts_and_Sciences).

In September 2009, Beyda took part in "Editing for Animation", the second part of the Academy's *Perspectives in Editing* series. The event featured a panel of five current leading animation editors, Beyda, John Carnochan, Kevin Nolting, Nancy Frazen, and Lois Freeman-Fox.[2]
