## Career

From the age of 3, Nagai spent five years in [Ipatinga](/source/Ipatinga), Brazil, where he started playing [street football](/source/Street_football_(association_football)) with his childhood friends.[1]

After moving back from Brazil to [Kitakyushu, Fukuoka](/source/Kitakyushu%2C_Fukuoka), he played soccer at local elementary and junior high school clubs,[1] before joining the Kyushu International University High School club, where he played two matches in the 85th [All Japan High School Soccer Tournament](/source/All_Japan_High_School_Soccer_Tournament).[2]

He joined the [Fukuoka University](/source/Fukuoka_University) club in April 2007 and won the 33rd Prime Minister's Cup All Japan College Soccer Tournament in 2009.[2]

While playing for the Fukuoka University Club, Nagai also played for [Avispa Fukuoka](/source/Avispa_Fukuoka) in [J. League Division 2](/source/J._League_Division_2) in [2009](/source/2009_J._League_Division_2) and [Vissel Kobe](/source/Vissel_Kobe) in [2010](/source/2010_J._League_Division_1) as a [J.League designated special player](/source/J.League_designated_special_players).[3]

On 23 December 2009, he was named in the squad for [Japan](/source/Japan_national_football_team)'s [2011 AFC Asian Cup qualification](/source/2011_AFC_Asian_Cup_qualification) against [Yemen](/source/Yemen_national_football_team),[4] and made his full international debut for the team in the fixture on 6 January 2010.[5]

He was selected as a member of [Japanese squad](/source/Football_at_the_2012_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Men's_team_squads#Japan) for the [2012 Olympics](/source/Football_at_the_2012_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Men's_tournament).[6]

He was transferred from Nagoya to [Standard Liège](/source/Standard_Li%C3%A8ge) of [Belgian Pro League](/source/Belgian_Pro_League) in January 2013, but was loaned back to Nagoya from August 2013 to June 2014, due to limited playing opportunities at Standard Liège. In January 2015, the loan deal was terminated, and Nagai returned to Nagoya on a permanent basis.
