# Ken Hallowes

**Kenneth Bernard Hallowes** (1913 – 10 July 1995)[1][2] was an [Anglican](/source/Anglican) [bishop](/source/Bishop) in [South Africa](/source/South_Africa) in the last third of the 20th Century.

Hallowes was educated at [St Edmund Hall, Oxford](/source/St_Edmund_Hall,_Oxford)[3] and during [World War II](/source/World_War_II) he served as an [officer](/source/Commissioned_Officer) with the [Royal Armoured Corps](/source/Royal_Armoured_Corps)[4] When peace returned he studied for the priesthood at [Westcott House, Cambridge](/source/Westcott_House,_Cambridge); and was [ordained](/source/Ordained) in 1947.[5] He was [vice principal](/source/Principal_(academia)) of St Chad's College, [Ladysmith](/source/Ladysmith,_KwaZulu-Natal) from 1947 to 1954; [priest in charge](/source/Priest_in_charge) of [Springvale](/source/Klerksdorp) from 1952 to 1964; [rector](/source/Rector_(ecclesiastical)) of St Mark, [Pietermaritzburg](/source/Pietermaritzburg) from 1966 to 1969; and [suffragan bishop](/source/Suffragan_bishop) of [Natal](/source/Diocese_of_Natal) from 1969 until 1981. Hallowes died at home in Pietermaritzburg.
