'''Kendall Fay Chase''' (October 6, 1913 – January 16, 1985) was an American [starting pitcher](/source/starting_pitcher) in [Major League Baseball](/source/Major_League_Baseball) who played for three teams between 1936 and 1943. Listed at {{convert|6|ft|2|in|cm}} and {{convert|210|lb|kg stlb}}, Chase batted and threw [left-handed](/source/left-handed). He was born in [Oneonta, New York](/source/Oneonta%2C_New_York).

A hard-throwing pitcher, Chase entered the majors in 1936 with the [Washington Senators](/source/Washington_Senators_(1901%E2%80%9360)), playing six years for them before joining the [Boston Red Sox](/source/Boston_Red_Sox) (1942–43) and [New York Giants](/source/New_York_Giants_(NL)) (1943). While in Washington, he was part of a rotation that included [Dutch Leonard](/source/Dutch_Leonard_(right-handed_pitcher)), [Wes Ferrell](/source/Wes_Ferrell) and [Sid Hudson](/source/Sid_Hudson). On April 29, 1939, Ken Chase gave up hit number 2,721 of Lou Gehrig's career.<ref>{{cite web |title=Washington Senators 3, New York Yankees 1 |url=https://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1939/B04290NYA1939.htm |website=retrosheet.org |accessdate=February 17, 2019 |date=April 29, 1939}}</ref> Lou Gehrig never recorded another hit as he willingly pulled himself out of the lineup the next day.  He never played another game.

Chase's most productive season came in 1940 with the Senators, when he set career-numbers with 15 [wins](/source/win_(baseball)), a 3.23 [ERA](/source/earned_run_average), and 129 [strikeout](/source/strikeout)s. He struggled with poor control during the season, allowing 143 [walks](/source/base_on_balls) and 12 [wild pitch](/source/wild_pitch)es to lead the [American League](/source/American_League).

In an eight-season career, Chase posted a 53–84 record with 582 strikeouts and a 4.27 ERA in 188 [games pitched](/source/games_pitched), including 160 starts 62 [complete game](/source/complete_game)s, four [shutout](/source/shutout)s, and 1165 [innings](/source/innings_pitched).
