# Kelly Zeeman

**Kelly Zeeman** (born 19 November 1993) is a Dutch former professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [defensive midfielder](/source/Defensive_midfielder) or [centre-back](/source/Centre-back).[1]

Zeeman spent most of her career at [Eredivisie](/source/Eredivisie_(women)) club [Ajax](/source/AFC_Ajax_(women)), and also played for the [Netherlands national team](/source/Netherlands_women's_national_football_team), being part of the winning Netherlands team at [UEFA Women's Euro 2017](/source/UEFA_Women's_Euro_2017).

## Club career

Zeeman played for [Telstar](/source/SC_Telstar_VVNH) in the [BeNe League](/source/BeNe_League) in the 2012–13 season.[2] In June 2013, she moved to [Ajax](/source/AFC_Ajax_(women)) along with [Claudia van den Heiligenberg](/source/Claudia_van_den_Heiligenberg).[2] She suffered a serious injury in 2019, and was out for a few months.[3] On 2 June 2020, Zeeman signed a new two year contract with the club.[4]

In January 2021, Zeeman joined [SC Heerenveen](/source/SC_Heerenveen_(women)) on a loan deal until 30 June 2021. This made her the first Dutch player to be loaned out in [Eredivisie](/source/Eredivisie_(women)) history.[5]

On 5 May 2022, Zeeman announced she would be retiring from football at the end of the 2021–22 season.[6] She played her final match in the Eredivise Cup final, playing 50 minutes before being substituted.[7] Zeeman retired having won two championships, five KNVB Cups, and one Eredivise Cup.[8]

## After football

Zeeman started working with the Ajax media team, interviewing current Ajax players in a series called "Kelly's Angels".[9]

In May 2023, Zeeman was part of a two year Ajax training program that aimed to associate former Ajax players with projects at Ajax.[10]

## International career

Zeeman earned her first [cap](/source/Cap_(sport)) for the [national team](/source/Netherlands_women's_national_football_team) on 9 February 2013, in a 3–2 [friendly](/source/Exhibition_game) win against [Belgium](/source/Belgium_women's_national_football_team).[11]

In June 2017, she was called up by head coach [Sarina Wiegman](/source/Sarina_Wiegman) to be part of the Netherlands squad for the [UEFA Women's Euro 2017](/source/UEFA_Women's_Euro_2017) on home soil.[12] Zeeman made two substitute appearances during the tournament, which the Dutch won to claim their first Women's Euro trophy.[11]

After the tournament, the whole team was honoured by the [Prime Minister](/source/Prime_Minister_of_the_Netherlands) [Mark Rutte](/source/Mark_Rutte) and [Minister of Sport](/source/Ministry_of_Health,_Welfare_and_Sport) [Edith Schippers](/source/Edith_Schippers) and made [Knights of the Order of Orange-Nassau](/source/Order_of_Orange-Nassau).[13]
