# Kelly Jefferson

**Kelly Jefferson** is a Canadian [jazz](/source/Jazz) saxophonist (born March 4, 1970, in [Regina, Saskatchewan](/source/Regina,_Saskatchewan)),[1] he has recorded and performed with numerous jazz musicians and bands.

Jefferson has a Bachelor of Music degree from [McGill University](/source/McGill_University) in [Montreal](/source/Montreal), [Quebec](/source/Quebec), and a master's degree from the Manhattan School of Music in [New York](/source/New_York_City), [New York](/source/New_York_(state)).[2] He serves on the faculty of the [University of Toronto](/source/University_of_Toronto) as well as [York University](/source/York_University) in [Toronto](/source/Toronto), [Ontario](/source/Ontario), and previously taught at McGill University.

He has performed with the [Montreal Symphony Orchestra](/source/Montreal_Symphony_Orchestra), Ottawa's [National Arts Centre Orchestra](/source/National_Arts_Centre_Orchestra), the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, The [Chris Tarry](/source/Chris_Tarry) Group, and many other jazz artists. He toured the United States and Europe as tenor saxophonist with [Maynard Ferguson](/source/Maynard_Ferguson) and [Big Bop Nouveau](/source/Big_Bop_Nouveau).[3] He leads the Kelly Jefferson trio and co-leads the Jefferson Grant Quintet with trombonist Kelsley Grant.

Jefferson was nominated for Canada's National Jazz Awards in 2005 and 2006.[4]
