His cousin, [Colin McDonald](/source/Colin_McDonald_(Australian_cricketer)), also played for [Victoria](/source/Victoria_cricket_team) and [Australia](/source/Australia_national_cricket_team). He was educated at [Wesley College, Melbourne](/source/Wesley_College%2C_Melbourne).

In addition to cricket, Rigg played [Australian rules football](/source/Australian_rules_football) in the [Metropolitan Amateur Football Association](/source/Victorian_Amateur_Football_Association) (MAFA) for the [Collegians football Club](/source/Collegians_football_Club).
