# Keith Flowers

**Keith Duane Flowers** (April 24, 1930 – November 12, 1993) was an American professional [football](/source/American_football) player who played one season in the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL) with the [Detroit Lions](/source/Detroit_Lions) and [Dallas Texans](/source/Dallas_Texans_(NFL)). He was selected by the Lions in the eleventh round of the [1952 NFL draft](/source/1952_NFL_draft) after playing [college football](/source/College_football) at [Texas Christian University](/source/Texas_Christian_University).

## Early life and college

Keith Duane Flowers was born on April 24, 1930, in [Perryton, Texas](/source/Perryton,_Texas).[1] He attended [Perryton High School](/source/Perryton_High_School) in Perryton.[1]

Flowers was a member of the [TCU Horned Frogs](/source/Texas_Christian_Horned_Frogs_football) of [Texas Christian University](/source/Texas_Christian_University) from 1948 to 1951 and a three-year [letterman](/source/Letterman_(sports)) from 1949 to 1951.[1] As a senior in 1951, he was named a first-team [All-American](/source/All-American) defensive [center](/source/Center_(American_football)) by both the [Associated Press](/source/Associated_Press) (AP) and *[Chicago Tribune](/source/Chicago_Tribune)*.[2][3] He was also named first-team All-[Southwest Conference](/source/Southwest_Conference) at [linebacker](/source/Linebacker) by the AP in 1951.[4]

## Professional career

Flowers was selected by the [Detroit Lions](/source/Detroit_Lions) in the 11th round, with the 130th overall pick, of the [1952 NFL draft](/source/1952_NFL_draft).[5] He played in three games for the Lions during the 1952 season before being released on October 23, 1952.[6][5]

Flowers signed with the [Dallas Texans](/source/Dallas_Texans_(NFL)) of the NFL on November 5, 1952.[6] He appeared in six games, starting three, for the Texans in 1952, converting three of five extra points and intercepting one pass for 16 yards.[5] The Texans folded after the 1952 season and the team's assets were awarded to the [Baltimore Colts](/source/Baltimore_Colts). Flowers was released by the Colts in 1953.[6]

## Personal life

Flowers died on November 12, 1993, in [Plano, Texas](/source/Plano,_Texas).[1]
