## National team career

In July 2012, Higashi was selected to the [Japan U23 team](/source/Japan_national_under-23_football_team) for [2012 Summer Olympics](/source/Football_at_the_2012_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Men's_tournament). At this tournament, he wore the number 10 shirt for Japan and played all 6 matches. The team finished fourth.
