==Claim to the throne==
He was the third son of [Sekabaka Kateregga Kamegere](/source/Kateregga_of_Buganda), who reigned between 1644 and 1674. His mother was Namutebi of the Mmamba clan, who was the eighth of his father's nine [wives](/source/wives). He [ascended](/source/Enthronement) the [throne](/source/throne) upon the [death](/source/death) of his elder [brother](/source/brother). He established his [palace](/source/Capital_(political)) at Lunnyo,<ref name="The Customs of the Baganda">{{cite book |last1=Kaggwa |first1=Apollo |last2=Kalibala |first2=Ernest B. |title=The Customs of the Baganda |date=1934 |page=29}}</ref> near the city of [Entebbe](/source/Entebbe), close to where the current State House is stands today.

==Married life==
He married two wives:<ref name="The Customs of the Baganda" />

* Nabbanja, daughter of Kasujja, of the Ngeye clan
* Nakku, daughter of Walusimbi, of the Ffumbe clan

==Issue==
He had three sons:<ref name="The Customs of the Baganda" />

* Prince (Omulangira) Sematimba, whose mother was Nabbanja
* Prince (Omulangira) Wakayima, whose mother was Nabbanja
* Prince (Omulangira) Kawumpuli, whose mother was Nakku. He was born limbless and consequently excluded from the succession.

==The final years==
